Serendipity
Certificate: John Cusack, Kate Beckinsale, Jeremy Piven
Length: 90 minutes Director: Peter Chelsom
Rating: Two strangers meet by chance while out Christmas shopping in New York, and proceed to spend an enjoyable evening together. However instead of swapping phone numbers, they decide to leave it up to chance as to whether or not they will ever see each other again. With one of them strongly believing in fate, they set in chain a couple of tokens that will decide whether or not they should be together.

Three years pass without them ever seeing each other again. Both are now engaged, with their weddings on the imminent horizon. But as a sequence of "signs" remind them of each other, they both start to wonder what could have been. They each re-energise their efforts to find each other, in one last desparate attempt, before being married to other partners.

This is a charming romantic comedy, featuring strong performances from Cusack and Beckinsale. It is easy to warm to the characters, and you soon find yourself willing them back together, against all the odds. While the film is immediately predictable, this doesn't stop it from being an entertaining journey throughout.

The perfect "chick flick" for the Christmas season.
